At the Indian Army’s Pokhran Testing Range, which is located in Rajasthan, India accomplished three nuclear tests on 11th May 1998. As a part of Operation Shakti, these trials were carried out. There were two additional tests done on May 13. All experiments were done under the supervision of the late APJ Abdul Kalam.

The first test was “Smiling Buddha” conducted in 1974. The second nuclear test was in Pokhran. The Hansa-3 was the first ever indigenous aircraft debuted by India, which was developed by the National Aerospace Institute and flew in Bengaluru on 11th May 1998. It was a two-seater light plane used for flight training, espionage, and other missions.

India’s surface-to-air missile Trishul test launch was also done on 11th May. DRDO carried out the tests as part of the Integrated Guided Missile Development program of India. The government designated the day as National Technology Day because of these technical achievements. Various lectures and workshops have been hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The foundation stone will be laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and dedicated to the nation’s various projects related to technological and scientific advancement in the country, valued at more than Rs. 5800 crores.
